Matthew is one of the solo clarinettists in the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie (the German Chamber Orchestra) and is a member of Ensemble 360.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Matthew has played at festivals and concert halls around the globe, including at Wigmore Hall, the Aldeburgh, Cheltenham, Lichfield and Edinburgh festivals, at Ivry Gitlis’ Cassis Festival, the Charlottesville and Newhaven festivals in the United States and in Switzerland, France, Sweden, Finland, Romania, Italy, Japan, Germany, Greece, Spain and India.

His chamber music partners have included the Belcea, Elias, Arditti and Meta4 quartets, the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, Pekka Kuusisto, Lawrence Power, Natalie Clein, Emily Beynon, Thomas Adès and Konstantin Lifschitz. Matthew is a regular participant at IMS Prussia Cove, and was part of the group that was awarded the 2008 Royal Philharmonic Society Chamber Music Award for a series of concerts given during the autumn of 2007.

As an orchestral musician, Matthew has appeared as a guest solo clarinetist with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and many of Britain’s leading orchestras. Matthew has been involved in the recording of many film scores, and recorded the solo clarinet part for the films Love Actually and Pride and Prejudice.
