Matthew Forbes

Matthew Forbes graduated in 2000 from the Royal Academy of Music with first class honours. He has played with, among others, the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the BBC Symphony and Concert Orchestras, the Birmingham Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the Britten Sinfonia, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the orchestras of ENO (Death in Venice, La Bohème, On the Town) and the Royal Opera House (Tristan und Isolde, Giselle, Swan Lake and Mayerling). His extensive teaching experience includes working as course director and cello teacher/conductor with Oxford Cello School since 1999 and leading improvisation, composition, songwriting, African drumming and world percussion workshop programmes for the Music Workshop Company.

He is a versatile musician: he has been involved as guitarist, mandolin player and caller in the “Ceilidh for Kids” project, teaching traditional music and dances to schoolchildren. Other experience includes regular appearances as a jazz pianist, with folk bands Och Aye, Footloose and Crewneck and as guitarist and mandolin player for Irish duo Eirann.
